27 June (Orthodox calendar)
Profile:
1st century lay woman. Married to Chusa, steward of King Herod Antipas. Disciple
of Jesus, and mentioned in Luke (8.3) as providing for Jesus and the Apostles.
Eastern tradition says that she gave the head of John the Baptist an honourable
burial. One of the women Luke says (24.10) discovered the empty tomb on the first
Easter when she went to anoint the body, and celebrated on the 3rd Sunday of
Pascha in the Orthodox Church as the Myrrh-bearers. She is especially venerated
by the Jesuits.

This entry for one of the Saints celebrated on my birthday mystified me!
I have always loved my early wakeup, my design mentoress made the soaps with
the rose oil for me as a girl, and was Greek Orthodox/Congregational, and I
learned the method...someone else must have carried the candle when Joanna found
Jesus, since candle making was the only discouraged craft.
When the Jesuit school was boys only, girls imported,I was one of their imports,
and understudied the role of Shaw's Saint Joan in their campus production,
Robert Emerich, Director.
My late husband made neosporin and digitalis, sudafed and a med that cures gout.
And my kitchen was pretty special till he died...and sometimes since.

I just found the coincidences startling, and delightful!

DIET:

As children nutritional studies were part of family life, and it has never been difficult to keep the nutrition good...even some junkfoods have value. At the very least, an essential grasp of the importance of nutrition in optimizing other life goals is natural to me.
The most-loved men in our family would find it essential to remind us of the ferocity factor in obtaining preparing and consuming our foods...man is the hunter, and it helped them to attack food, subltly or otherwise, that did not appeal to them. Jeffrey S. Mogil, professor of pain studies at McGill, said in a news release.

Redheads are special! Women who have red hair have an innate ability to tolerate more pain than other people. The concept does not work the same for red-headed men. The gene that gives red hair and fair skin--identified as Mc1r-- influences the pathway through which the body doles out those naturally occurring painkillers in women.

The research could affect how doctors prescribe pain medication, since it's clear that genetic differences impact how well a drug will work for individual people. The study findings were published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
