Description:
"Black Caps" A painting in watercolor by Elle Fagan.
"Black Caps" was fun and easy-to-do since the wild Blackberries grew in my back yard. They are sometimes called "Black Caps" but the berries put on quite a show, starting out white and then ripening thru yellow and orange phases to finally show up the lovely bright reds, raspberry reds, and almost blue-black. The darker they get , the sweeter! Fun to cultivate and fun to harvest. And so colorful to paint! I simply placed armsful of the branches in a vase and picked and munched as I pleased, hurrying to finish the painting while some of the berries remained on the branches.
If you observe art styles you may see that the berries and style in this painting are stronger and a bit heavier than the later one that follows. I was injured and having some dexterity issues to work through when working on the first. The partner to this painting, "Black Caps 2" was done a year os so later, when the injuries had healed and is lighter and was much faster and easier to do.
Still, both paintings found happy homes - are sold.
